Deep Dish vs Deep Concave Wheels: What Is the Difference?

Deep concave forged wheels

Deep dish and deep concave get mixed up all the time. They are two different things, and the right one depends on your car, your wheel size and the look you want.

What deep dish means

Dish is about the lip. A deep dish wheel has a big step between the outer edge of the wheel and the face, so you see a wide band of lip before the spokes start.

Dish comes from offset and construction. A lower offset and a wider wheel push the face further in and make the lip deeper. Multi piece wheels, like a 2-piece, are the easiest way to get a deep lip, because the barrel and face are separate parts and the lip size can be picked to suit the car.

What deep concave means

Concave is about the face. On a concave wheel the spokes curve inward from the rim toward the center, so the center of the wheel sits deeper than the edge. The more the spokes curve, the more aggressive the wheel looks.

Concave also comes from width and offset. Wider wheels with lower offsets get a deeper concave profile, which is why the rear wheels on a staggered setup usually look more concave than the fronts.

Can a wheel be both?

Yes. A 2-piece wheel can have a concave face and a deep lip at the same time. It is one of the most popular looks on modern exotics and show cars.

Which look suits your car

Deep dish is a classic look that fits older cars, Japanese builds and lowered stance cars. Deep concave is the modern look you see on most exotics, performance SUVs and newer sports cars.

Both are limited by your car. The offset has to clear the brakes and suspension, and the wheel has to fit the arch without rubbing. That is why we check fitment for your exact car before anything is made.

How Corsa builds it

Every Corsa wheel is forged from 6061-T6 and built to order, so we can set the width, offset and face profile for the dish or concave you want. Monoblocks are great for concave faces, and our 2-piece wheels give you the most control over lip depth. Not sure what fits? Read wheel offset explained, or send us your car and we will render both options for you.

Questions

Does deep dish fit every car?

No. It depends on the offset your car can run without hitting the brakes or suspension. We work it out for your exact car.

What makes a wheel more concave?

A wider wheel and a lower offset. That is why staggered rear wheels usually look more concave than the fronts.

Is deep concave only for big wheels?

No, but concave shows up more on wider wheels, so it is common on 20" to 22" setups.

Can I see both looks on my car first?

Yes. Send us a photo of your car and we will render it on the wheels you like, free.
