Beadlock Wheels for Drag Racing: What They Are and How to Choose

Corsa forged beadlock wheels

Why drag cars run beadlocks, what sizes work, and what to look for in a forged beadlock.

What a beadlock does

Drag radials run at low pressure so they can grow and grip on launch. Low pressure also means the tire wants to spin on the wheel when the power hits. A beadlock stops that by clamping the tire bead between the wheel and a bolted ring, so the tire and wheel turn together.

Without one, a big power car can spin the tire on the rim, lose the launch and even pull the valve stem.

Common sizes

Most drag cars run a staggered setup: a tall, narrow front and a beadlock rear. 18" front and 17" rear is very common on modern cars, and 15" beadlocks are popular for big power builds that run tall sidewall radials.

Corsa beadlocks are forged from 6061-T6 and built from 15" to 20". Our drag packs bundle matched fronts and beadlock rears as a set.

What to look for

Forged, not cast. The wheel and ring take huge loads on launch. Forged 6061-T6 is far stronger.

Proper fitment. The wheel has to clear big brakes and suspension while fitting the tire you run.

Engineering. Ask how the wheel is tested. Every Corsa wheel is checked with FEA to SAE, JWL and VIA standards.

Track rules. Check your class rules for beadlock and wheel requirements before you order.

Street use

Many people like the beadlock look on the street. Rules for running functional beadlocks on public roads vary by state and country, so check yours. We also make beadlock style wheels that give you the look without a functional ring.

Pricing

Corsa beadlocks start at $1,035 per wheel in 15x10 and $1,140 in 17" and 18". The 15x12 is a multi-piece build at $1,570 per wheel. Other sizes are quoted per build. See all forged beadlocks or request a quote with your car, tire and power level.

What size beadlock should I run?

17" and 18" are common on modern cars, and 15" is popular for big power builds on tall radials. It depends on your tire and class.

How much do forged beadlocks cost?

At Corsa, from $1,035 per wheel in 15x10, and $1,140 in 17" and 18".
